It is pretty humbling having talented friends. Corie Hinton, rockstar Madagascar Peace Corps Volunteer, is one of those talented people. She is an amazing artist with a unique style that I find quite captivating. You can view her portfolio online on her website, coriehinton.com. If viewing the artwork online is not enough for you, you can also purchase prints via etsy. Check out her Madagascar collection, it is pretty awesome! I have included some of the examples here.... she also notes on her site that if you see something there which is not currently for sale, contact her to purchase.

Art print, children, sunset, 8"x10" PRINT, "CHILDREN"
The children will inherit the Earth

Art print, woman, rice harvest, 8"x10" PRINT, "TRUST"
Probably my favorite

Andrew Rugasira's Talk: Finding Answers in the Global Market

Wow... so much for posting more regularly this year! It has been a crazy semester, and even now the craziness continues so I will keep this brief...

Entrepreneurship
Andrew Rugasira, founder and CEO of Good African Coffee, spoke at the DRI Debates conference that I attended about a month or so ago. The conference was interesting overall, but much of it was bogged down by people with opposing viewpoints arguing about who was right. Mr. Rugasira just spoke about his own experience marketing Ugandan coffee in the West and his own challenges he faces as an entrepreneur. Here is a great NYT article about Mr. Rugasira.

As mentioned above, I think many development economists and theorists get distracted in debating ideas. While I do not agree with everything Professor Easterly (who hosted the DRI conference) says, I have always appreciated his focus on developing-country entrepreneurs (also  his focus on locally-specific solutions). It is people like Mr. Rugasira who we should be looking for and supporting. Check out his story below, it is a great talk!
